Established in 1801 on 633 acres overlooking the banks of the Oconee River in northeast Georgia, the University of Georgia graduated its first class in 1804. The curriculum of traditional classical studies was expanded in 1843 to include courses in law, and again in 1872 with courses in agriculture and mechanical arts. Today, the university offers classes to over 33,000 students at its main campus and satellite campuses at Gwinnett, Tifton Center and Griffin.

Boasting 19 Rhodes scholars and student and faculty honors that include awards from the National Academy of Arts & Sciences, the MacArthur Foundation and the prestigious Pulitzer Prize, the University of Georgia offers Baccalaureate degrees in more than 150 fields, Master’s degrees in 128 fields, and professional degrees in law, pharmacy, and veterinary medicine.

College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Griffin Campus. Founded in 1859, the CAES is one of the oldest colleges of agriculture in the country.
